Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) 

IOCL is the biggest government company in India in terms of Revenue. As per the latest data available in internet IOCL has a revenue of more than Rs. 8 Lakh Crore. IOCL is the maharatna company of government of India and its ownership comes under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. It was incorporated in the year of 1959 and its headquarter is situated in Delhi, India. It is a oil marketing company which has many petrol stations in whole of Bharat. 

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC)

LIC is the biggest insurance company in India which holds more than 50% market share in life insurance and other insurance products. Life Insurance Corporation was established in the year of 1956 and it comes under the ownership of Government of India and its control comes under Ministry of Finance.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC)

It is the largest government-owned-oil and gas explorer and producer in the country and produces around 70 percent of India's domestic production of crude oil and around 84 percent of natural gas. It was founded in the year of 1956 and its operation and control comes under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)

It is one of the largest government owned company which produces oil. It was earlier known as Rangoon Oil and Exploration company but later it was incorporated as BPCL in 1976 under the Act of Nationalisation. In current time its operation and control comes under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)

HPCL was founded in the year of 1974 under the nationalisation scheme of earlier government. In the current time it is one of the subsidiary of ONGC which is also a government company. Its major business is to refine and sell the oil which is produces by ONGC and other companies.

State Bank of India (SBI)

State Bank is the biggest bank in India in terms of revenue, profit and number of branches. It was founded in the year of 1955 by combining Imperial bank of India, Bank of Calcutta, Bank of Bombay and Bank of Madras. It is one of the biggest government owned entity. SBI is governed by the rules of the State Bank of India Act 1955. 

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)

NTPC is power generation company which comes under the Ministry of Power. It was founded in the year of 1975 and it is the largest power generation company in whole India. It majorly generates power through coal based stations and rest through gas based stations, Hydro station, small hydro, Solar PV, and Wind based Station.

Coal India

Coal India is the biggest Coal Mining and Producing country of India. It produces more than 80% of domestic coal consumption. Before Coal India the coal mines were in private hands but later with the efforts of government it came under the government control. 

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL)

MRPL comes under the ownership of ONGC which is also a government owned entity. It was one of the biggest oil refinery company in whole of India. It was founded in the year of 1988 and later acquired by ONGC in 2003. Before the acquistion MRPL was a joint venture between HPCL and AV Birla Group (Now Adity Birla Group).

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)

SAIL is the biggest Iron and Steel company under the onwership of Government of India. It was founded in the year of 1954 and over the period it acquired many steel plants according to the government direction. In the current time its major production units are located in Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
